How to make a gif play only once?
Hi, I am currently designing a website, and I have Dreamweaver and Fireworks CS4. I made a really cool animated gif logo for the website I'm building, but I only want it to play once. Is there a way to make it do that?

I'm not sure what the specific options are in fireworks, but the way to set that is simple: most gif editors will have a checkbox for "repeat" or "loop infinitely"... uncheck that, once you find it. Some, I think, allow an option like "loop [...] times" as well, but I think all should have an option for looping or not looping-- I'm sure that fireworks does, though dreamweaver wouldn't, as it just embeds, rather than edits, graphics.

animated GIF repeat
I haven't looked at Fireworks since it was Macromedia. Wonder if it is now similar to Adobe Photoshop (CS3 got rid of Image Ready, now Window>Animation).
At the beginning of the animation bar (left-bottom corner) is a drop-down (starting with Forever), click drop down for SET LOOP COUNT dialog box and enter 1 or whatever number of loops you want.

How many fps is each frame in the animation?

fps is FLASH-like
Photoshop animated GIFs have drop-down for .2, .5, 1.00, 2.00 seconds for frame to display. You don't actually have FPS (frames per second) on a timeline.

So in all, your fps equal to 3.7 seconds?

What he means is that you choose the delay before the next frame will be shown. If you for example choose the delay 0.2 on all frames that would mean 5 fps.

Obsolete again!
Was "Queen of Animated GIFs" with Image Ready (http://www.lineforeline.com). * It was a matter of turning layers visibility ON/OFF or changing layer Mode and/or Opacity for different frames, and setting delay for each frame from drop-down menu. Run-time depended on total number of frames and individual delay settings for each frame. And there is, of course, option to set number of loops.
Confess have not done much Photoshop animation since CS3 (http://www.auntnini.com/new/index.htm).
Now I see a button on lower right of animation bar to display Flash-like timeline [CORRECTION: more like AfterEffects timeline]. OH BOY! Go figure! Still cannot think in terms of FPS (frames per second) for an animated GIF.
[Could not insert screen-shot pics from desktop to show this. How do you insert images that do not have URL?]

I was also wondering how to make it play only once. Thanks for all of the great information in the replies.

To do this - you would need to give me the FPS for the entire gif WebSight.
