    Default how to do this?

    hello friends,

today, I have visited this site,

    http://www.microsoft.com

there is an add of Microsoft Silverlight, actually the thing that impressed me was, all the web page contents except that add were darkened until the acknowledgment from user.

actually i want to advertise for a latest feature in my site also in this way.

    how can i do this?

I am sorry, you probably didn't get my question.

actually, i want the way by which we can make the entire page darkened/disabled except that advertising banner until the user gives any acknowledgement/click on that.

Lightbox or one of its many 'clones' is a good approach, however only one of them I know of (my modified 'Firstlight' edition) will launch a modal sort of window like that on page load, see:

But any old modal window with darkening would do. There are tons of those sorts of scripts around, here's DD's edition:

You could use Facebox. Instead of putting a regular link to your content, put
    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">jQuery.facebox('your_ad_or_whatever.html')</script>
at the top of the <body> section.

I am confused with java script files that which one or all of them, should i use?

I simply have an advertising banner that should be loaded when someone open my web site's home page. however, I think using this way given over there, the banner would be loaded in that way after clicking on the image only. but my requirement is different, i just want the banner would be loaded when someone open the web page.

I don't know any easy way to do this. Pick a method and try your best to follow the instructions for that method.

Once you get a live page up somewhere that has one of these approaches on it, if you are still having problems with it, give us a link to the page so we can troubleshoot it for you.

No errors on that page, but no attempt to launch a modal window or anything like what you are talking about. BTW 350K is a bit huge for college.png, can't you optimize it? Perhaps make it a .jpg and add the drop shadow separately.
