IE 8 and Image Effects

I was having so much fun with some of the Image Effects the excellent coders have provided here just to find out that a lot of them no longer work in the new IE 8.

Anyone know the reasoning behind this from Microsoft? I thought they tried to be more backwards-compatible usually.

It's a shame that some of the big companies only allow Internet Explorer as a standard.
