How to get back-forward and history functionality with AJAX?

Hi all. I just started teaching myself dreamweaver cs3.

I wanted to have content load into a "mainContent" div without a page refresh. I just followed the directions at this link:

So I got that "AJAX" stuff working. But I want to have back-forward history and bookmarking functionality. I've been to lots of sites that explain how, but its all just over my head. I don't know Javascript.

Can someone explain to me a simple way to implement back-forward history, knowing that I used the script from the link shown above?
