Unfortunaly it only works up to step 5: "type cd $ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst" because the directory is not found.
I'm not nearly as savvy as schorhr, but I did find the microsoft help pages and then finally figured out how to get the recovery console running from the "reinstallation cd" I found in a shoebox in my daughter's desk.
But I ran into the same thing at Step 5: "Directory not found."
This was disheartening but not particularly surprising since I never heard of Service Pack 2 and was not trying to load it, as the microsolf help article assumes. Maybe it was "updated" automatically, I don't know. Never heard of TVMedia, either.
Here is the full blue screen error message:
Stop: c000135 (unable to locate component).
This application failed to start because winsrv was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
So, anybody know of a fix or what are my options? I've got a number of files on the internal drive that I'd rather not lose....
