Smile IE rendering at Higher Resolution? IE Newby Simple QuestionG

Newbie to IE here- I have always coded on Opera- and tested on firefox- I already have all my PNG fixes in place. Question: does graphic resolution
increase> in IE6-7 as opposed to Opera/firefox. Everything- fits fine- then in IE half the page gets forced down under the menu. I have seen this happen even in Opera- if there is not enough room for three columns- ONE will have to go- in this case I am losing TWO columns. Do I need to batch all my images smaller- to render only if IE is used- what is the protocol- this is very frustrating- just when I got opaque PNG's working!! Thanks guys/gals.

Hello could you post a link to an example of this happening?
As long the Opera/Firefox pagezoom is disabled the resolution of pictures stays the same.
