    Default Website with "windows"

    Hey,

I'm working on another website now (actually, I just intended for it to be a project), and it looks pretty cool. It's almost like your desktop, with the navigation on the bottom, and they open up windows. You can minimize, tile, or maximize the windows. It's all server-side by the way (PHP), not Javascript windows.

Doesn't putting advertisements in a pop-up window defeat the purpose? I know there are some ad aficionados out there who'll click on it to check out how sexy your ads are. But for the general population, you're not going to make money off of it (if that is your intent).

Accessibility and usability wise, you're in some trouble. But, it's a cool idea. For a personal site, I say do whatever you want. It's your playground...who cares about standards, accessibility, etc... If you want to try it out, do it.

I like the design of your tutorials section!

I thought at first the ad thing would be good... But overall, they just ruin your layout, and for me, hardly make me any profit. I might make 25 cents a day if I'm lucky :/ . Soon I'm scrapping the whole idea.

My original purpose for the ads was to make back some of the money I spent on hosting (which clearly isn't going to happen). Oh well, I only paid 25 dollars for a year with my domain anyways.

If you get one of the rarer domains, like mike.burt.name, they're usually cheaper. I pay £5 (~USD$10) per two years for my twey.co.uk.
Twey | I understand English | 日本語が分かります | mi jimpe fi le jbobau | mi esperanton komprenas | je comprends français | entiendo español | tôi ít hiểu tiếng Việt | ich verstehe ein bisschen Deutsch | beware XHTML | common coding mistakes | tutorials | various stuff | argh PHP!
