Stopping blank email forms

I have a html page with field boxes and when someone hits submit it goes to a php page that thanks them for entering their information but in the background of the page it submits the information to a email address.

Problem I have now is people are hitting submit without filling the form (why people do this is beyond me). Is there a string of code or javascript or something that will not allow someone to hit submit until after the form has been filled? I know it exsists I just don't know how to do it.

Any help would be great.
