    Default HELP with monitor setup

Upon plugging my Samsung SyncMaster 204B monitor into my HP laptop (with Vista) the power indicator light begins to flash as if it is on standby. Previous to plugging it into the laptop, the light is constant with a box floating around reading 'Check Signal Cable' with the appropriate 3 coloured boxes indicating the monitor is functioning properly.

I have re-installed the necessary drivers and fiddled around in the Display setting for quite awhile. The computer recognizes the monitor but does not display the mirrorred or extended desktops, it remains black and blank.

Can somebody PLEASE lend some helpful hints in order to fix this FRUSTRATING problem.

You may also have to select an output monitor in display options, depending on your video card.
