Download and install Spybot S&D and perhaps also Ad-Aware (not sure of the address off the top of my head). That should find any spyware and adware you may have on your computer.

    Hope this helps.

The only way to really get rid of viruses, spyware, etc. is to reformat your computer. Good idea every once in a while anyway. And needed if you have windows.
Spybot S&D is the best out there, though. (Better to use it from the start, though, not after it's all messed up.)

You can try to use Spybot S&D and Trend Micro makes a program called Hijack this. I found that fairly useful with browser hijack problems. Formatting isn't the only way to get rid of it, just the easiest.

Try googling the errors you get, and the advertisements. A lot of times you can find manual removal tools written specifically for that piece of malware. Finding the name of your malware is the easiest way to destroy it. Sometimes, spyware cleaners will not be able to find it.

I have seen some pretty messy malware applications that aren't worth the hassle. Formatting is a last resort but it is fail safe.

In theory, no, but it will definitely be the most complete way if you are at all unsure (and who can be sure with the type of program that regenerates itself into various locations when deleted, etc.)
