Floating Menu - Width in percent?

3) Describe problem:

I have several users complaining about the menu floating on top of my content on my site.... If people are using a small screen or low resolution, the menu will place itself on top of my text and images so they cant read it.

I was wondering, since my site is build in tables, if I could put the menu in the left cell of the main table and then give the menu a 100% width, so the menu automatically will get thinner or wider so it always fits and dont float over the content.

Is this possible?
