    Default Site Color Scheme

So, if you were desiging a professional website that would pay you 1000's of dollars to get the best website. What would be your color scheme?

That's a hard thing to specify just based on a color pallete.

We actually signed on a new corporate client today and I'm helping with the designing. So when we think about the color pallete, it feeds off of other elements. Whatever collateral that the client gives us, is usually the initial fodder. Some large corporate clients usually already have an identity which dictates the color scheme. We just finished a mini-site for the MLB where the color scheme was very much already set.

Also, the layout and overall ambience dictates the colors. When you're going for minimalist designs, you might choose one thing. When you have strong media elements, you might choose a subdued color pallete. If it's a highly text-based site, you might pick some bolder colors.

I do have to say though, that "corporate" feeling sites are usually ones with a well structured layout and a fairly somber color pallete. This doesn't mean that you have to use dull tones, but whitespace is key.

So, going from that paradigm...if I had to choose one based only on that archetype, I'd pick the 1st option.

Hmm, personally i would choose the 1st option, since the other combinations looks odd,(if you could include the color scheme i might choose other options). but I think the color scheme could depends on the company's logo, mascot etc or even what kind of business / product are they selling.

dont forget ads in there too medyman...

granted ads are usually something that the client / stakeholders mandate of the companies they are allowing to be on the page, however if this is a legacy site that you are updating, you need to be aware of the current ads in place... how will that flow with the page...

I chose other, as obviously it would depend upon so many other things than upon some abstract notion of either what is 'good' or what I 'like'. Personally, I like to change schemes from time to time if the site lends itself to that.

Really depends on the type of site that I'm developing. But I'd go with the first choice since the color scheme sounds more clean and simple. Having black in the other choices makes it feel a bit dark and unwelcoming.
