hi :-)
can this script work with includes? i placed the script on an shtml page, and it works fine- then i called that page via an include tag because it is all part of my header, but in the main page that is calling it, it just clicks the default link- the drop down wont happen.

As long as the entire script is output, it doesn't matter whether it's output via includes (SSI) or not...
