Fade-in Slideshow: Display Position

Hi, all.

I'm using the Fade-in Slideshow script for a client. However my "suckerfish" dropdown menu appears behind the images I have within the slideshow. My guess is that this has something to do with "z-index" within the style. I have tried different options but have been unable to position the slideshow images behind the dropdown menu. I have tried the changes within the script and my style sheet. I can't seem to get it to work.

Does someone have any wisdom for me? I would like to keep it to the Fade-in Slideshow script. The dropdown menu was stressful enough for me

I assume you're just experiencing this with Firefox/Mozilla? It could be a bug. You might want to consider showing it on the MozillaZine Forums as someone can probably identify it, if it is. You could also search for z-index related bugs on Bugzilla.

I do, but on a different subject. Your site falls apart horribly if your font sizes aren't honoured precisely.

To make sites more readable, I force a minimum font size of 12px (I know some that use larger minimums!). You can see the result for yourself. That's just an increase of 2px on base font size.

You should never use microfonts on the Web. The font size should never go lower than 85% of the user default, and probably no less than 90-95% at an absolute minimum for body text. If the font still seems too large (and generally unsuitable fonts like Verdana might), then don't use it.

Whilst appearance is important, the ability to read the content outweighs that. The user will spend more time reading than either the client or the developer, so small fonts might not seem to be an issue at first, but they are in the long run. Search the Google Groups archives for lengthy debates on this topic. The newsgroups alt.html, comp.infosystems.www.authoring.html, and comp.infosystems.www.authoring.stylesheets tend to argue the point the most often.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean here. I looked at this in IE5 and IE6. The dropdown still appears behind the slideshow images. I've also tried several "z-index" fixes. I think I have focused in the right area, but my skills have limited me from finding the solution.

Is there an area of the script that I could focus on to correct the problem?

I don't experience that with neither IE 6, nor 5.x. It doesn't occur in Opera 8 and 7.54, either.

Are you sure you're not looking at cached versions that don't reflect changes to the style sheet (it happens sometimes)?

I cleared my cache and rechecked in IE6. The menu is in front with IE6.

I will pursue the FireFox/Mozilla forums to address the "z-index" unless somebody reading already has the answer

It is important that this script work in as many browsers as possible. Thanks for the insight.
