    Default Create a shortcut script

Is it possible to put a link on my web page, which will place a shortcut (favicon) on the viewers desktop?
    Thanks for any info.

Looks like (I haven't tried it) you need to upload it to your website (doesn't matter where, I'd recommend somewhere out-of-the-way) and provide your visitors a link to download it.

I would also recommend making a "Notice" telling them that:
    ...they're downloading an executable file
...what it does (makes a shortcut to your site)
...that it has no malware/viruses, but they should only download it if they trust you and should run it through their antivirus software anyway, just to be sure
...that you're not liable for any problems that downloading/installing/using it may cause or contribute to

It is not possible to actually force a desktop icon to download, unless the user decides to save it, as with that exe.
Because of that, I would suggest just letting them download a shortcut file, if they want.

I would rarely trust an .exe from a website I don't totally trust. It could very likely be a virus you are trying to get them to install. Obviously it isn't, but that's only clear based on your intent, something the visitors would not know just seeing your webpage.

The .exe file doesnt work any better than the .url file (which can be made on the desktop screen). So i just used the .url for ease and peace of mind. It would be nice if I could just find a script for my website that would send the shortcut to the correct location on any windows version when the user clicked on the button. Thanks for the help, and please let me know if you find a script like that.
