Any idea why this gives a syntex error in IE but works in Firefox?

Code:

onMouseover=\"showhint(".$dtyAr[vmover].", this, event, '400px')

This function is from here http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex16/showhint.htm

dtyAr[vmover] can be blank and it still gives a sytex error.

No closing quote on the javascript/HTML level?
