What exactly is a "riddler" or encryption about? How does it work?

I am looking for a email program that will allow emails to be sent without involving the person's personal email account such as opening up a "compose" form in their own email account. In doing so I found this riddler and encryption thing and really do not understand how it works or its purpose.
