    Default phpbb or smf?

Which forum software is the best, phpbb, smf or other? If other, what is it called?

It all depends on your needs. I personally like vBulletin; but it is commercial. As for the free ones, I would vote SMF over phpBB; however, I like the forum called Avanced Electron Forum (AEF) better than SMF out of the box. As far as add on modules, I would go for SMF because they have a full library of stuff (as do most of the others, but support for SMF is better).

    Hope this helps.

Mostly just the admin area of the forum; simply because you can simply drag and drop the categories you add to the forum in the order that you choose. Also, there are a ton of functions that you just don't get with SMF out of the box.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

I use SMF exclusively. They do lack a certain something though... and I had to write my own Mod for it. But I think it is the best free one out there (and better than a lot of the paid ones)

phpBB annoys me, and I'm now using smf.

You mean to prevent them right? Well, all of them have some sort of CAPTCHA coding built-in, but as for the best, I would go with SMF for the free one and vBulletin for the commercial.

    Hope this helps.
