Default Opacity in Thumbnail Viewer footer

Script in Question: Thumbnail Viewer version 1
    http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/thumbnail.htm

Is there a way to make the background in the footer of a thumbnail viewer thumbBox have an opacity level? I changed the default white background to silver and would like to set an opacity level to the footer text (thumbBox) to overlay the image with the title.

I have seen it done on several other image viewers, but I can't get it to work in the JS file where it sets the footer html div. Everytime I put in the styles to set the opacity it kills the js.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Oh. I also tried to set it in the stylesheet, but to no avail.
