Animated Collapsible DIV Example is not running in IE6

I am using Animated Collapsible DIV Example given on Dynamic Drive, on a JSP page to show/hide a div, but its not working properly, when i opens my page, div is already expanded , even when i click on link hide, it collapse once and then expands again.

I think I remember IE 6 and 7 requiring a valid URL DOCTYPE for this script. There could be other problems.
