I LOVE the script. I think it's perfect for what we need, but my boss wants the feed items to scroll right-to-left instead of fading in-out. I want to keep the AJAX+RSS part very much, though.

How hard is it to change this into a marquee?

Have you looked at RSS Pausing scroller? It's based on the same backend script as the one you cited, except in the form of a up/down scroller. It's easier to modify that one to scroll left to right instead.
