swap image on change browser size

hej everyone,

this evening I started with developing my own site. I already have one, but i want to make a make-over for it..

Anyways..
When people change their browser windows, the content also rescales. Everything works well, except for the readability of the navigation.

I heard it is possible to change the image the browser displays, if you resize the window. So if the browser gets smaller, i also need a smaller image.. etc..

Does anyone have ideas how to solve this? is there a code that swaps the image when a browser size is exceeded or something?
