the run menu is a command prompt
    Not quite.
    Run menu:
    Run: fdisk
    Command prompt:
    C:\WINDOWS> fdisk

But that was definitely a GUI box. Command Prompt would have returned:
    'fdisk' not valid
or something. Try going to Start > Run, then typing 'cmd,' hitting Enter, typing fdisk and hitting Enter.

    No it doesn't... try:
    Code:
    type nul > \emptyfile.txt
It's only capable of running programs, it doesn't have cmd.exe's builtins (such as type or cd), stream control operators (such as > or |), or flow control structures (such as if or goto).

    Default Partition a hard drive

Yeah, I just run into the same trouble before.
How you deal with this big problem?
    Built-in disk management?
My friend told me to choose the 3rd software to finish the operation--partition assistant, you heard it. I will have a try.

this thread is over three years old. you should start a new thread for your problem.

I actually had to deal with this problem once - before the crash, I had a 500GB hard drive. After, Windows only recognized 15 of them.

I fixed it by installing Ubuntu and using its Disk Utility. Worked like a charm.

If you don't want to install Ubuntu, you can run it from a flash drive - it won't leave anything on your system.

Right you are. Any further questions, folks should start their own thread.

    Thread CLOSED.
