    Default Vista partition corrupted.

I am writing this from a ubuntu live cd. I was just about to install xp on a second hard drive when the xp installer said that C: needs formating to continue the install. I tried to boot into vista but nothing happened. No error messages even. through ubuntu I have discovered that the partition has been corrupted. I backed up my most important files but I would not really like to re-install everything. I have heard of ways to restore data. It this really possible? and if so, is there any good programs (linux) to do it with? thank you.

if its the entire partition then get Partition Table Doctor, it can rebuild the partition without writing teh data to another disc.

I cant remember how much it costs, a freind got it for me when 2 of my partitions died
