The GIMP has animation built in. Simply create each frame as a layer, then choose "animated" when exporting to GIF. GAP (the GIMP Animation Plugin) provides some specialised tools for working with animations.

    what I would say is...

Look for a Gif animator, goto downloads.com or some download site and type in gif

    and...

do not create repeated frames on your windows movie maker file as it would take alot of memory for the one file becuase the wmm file or whatever would stop eventually....

I use to have a gif creator slash animator, lol. and Some gif creators whatever can compress the code into a gif from other files.... just keeping looking...

    Good luck...

The GIMP certainly doesn't... don't know about Xara.

Hi, everyone. I'm new to these forums. I stumbled across Dynamic Forums quite by accident. I was searching for other people who can make animated gifs. I, myself make alot of them, and of all types. Johnnymushio, I can help you with all of your questions, I think. But firstly, I must ask you a question. What is that you are trying to make a gif of? And what software do you currently have?

Below is an example of a gif I made. Please ignore the web address on it, as my site is not finished yet. All I do is make gifs, and of varying types. I'd like to help you with your gif problems. Right click and save this gif to your Pc and you will see it at the correct speed. This is a basic gif I can make. I make them daily, so I know what I'm doing. Not trying to sound like a bigshot or anything. I just want to find others who share my gif interests and who themselves want to make gifs So you get the idea of the kinda quality etc etc.

I made the T2 gif with several programs in conjunction with eachother for the optimum results. Lag is due to server, not the animation itself. One thign you must remember when making any gif is that you will lose quality overall. This cannot be avoided.

How I made this gif very quickly.

T2 Dvd> rip with Dvd shrink to desktop
Open VOB files with VirtuaDub> select frames> save to folder
    NIC>open frames> set crop + frames> and set borders
    animate ...simple as that

And that is but one process I use. There are many to achieve the below results

    Eyeball

I have practically got your movie gifs and game gifs etc down to a fine art. And I'd like to see some others make gifs too. Over the last 2 years I have installed and used many different animation programs. Some with great success, and others with not good results. Below is a short list of gif programs that are among the very best [imho]. I actually purchased them. And I use them all according to my animation needs. I could show you a gif made with each and evry one of the below programs, so you can see the varying gif results.

IMAGEREADY - [comes with cs2] takes a bit to learn, but better than average results
JASC - Animation Shop 3 [most versatile] but poor compression ratios
NIC - Converter [great results] limited settings
ULEAD -Gif Maker 5 [good allround] medium diffilcult learnign curve
FM3 - Image Packer [limited] but great compressio ratios [bare settings]

    Others I have tried and gottne rid of;

    EASY GIF - Animator [meh]
    SELTECO [its ok, i guess]
COFFEECUP - I found this program a bit weird to use, dunn why, Lol.

It looks pretty good, but it is 2.8mb. That's VERY high for any content you'd want to include on a page. At that point, you could get a much higher quality embedded video.

The loading time, Kratos, is what causes the delay. Once it 'plays' once (ie, it's loaded each frame), you won't see a delay from the server. It should take about the same time as downloading directly. At least loading in the browser you to get to watch it process.

As the text says, Terminator 2, insanemonkey.
