Front Page view in Normal pane and script error

Why when I am in the NORMAL view pane on Front Page all I see is a blank page. No menu on the left and no photo. When I'm in the PREVIEW pane, I see what the page will look like and link to. Can anyone advise me on why I see nothing I can work with while in the Normal view? TIA

And, why am I having a problem with script error when trying to go from Normal to Preview panes?

WYSIWG editors will never give you a true construction of how a page will look, and from my experience, front page is by far the worst of them all.

and also it does not preview how the page will react in accorance with the javascript. it will just show the inital view of the site. and it looks like you are doing most of your output via javascript
