    Default Norton Internet Security

    Hi,
Well just the other day I was in the middle of feeling happy(figured out a bug in a php script) when A pop-up box came up saying Norton Internet Security Suite 2005 is invalid. The key is invalid. A little alarm in my head said somthing wasn't right. I opened the program and it said "Trial Period Expired" even thogh this is the second time we bought the subscription, about 3 months ago for $39. The program said it was valid until July 08. I talked to Symatic (or whatever their company is) and did a 2 hour live chat session with no luck, the key was inavlid. I have no way to tell if I have I virus now, because I cannot use for virus-detecting software! Pretty smart of those hackers. But so stupid, what kind of virus replaces your key with a bogus one, and deletes itself, without any harm to the computer. My computer is runing fast (despite the low RAM). Anyways, any H-E-L-P. For all I know I may have 30 key-loggers with Trojans and Virus, and a few system files deleted.

    1) norton = crap
    2) norton = crap
    3) evidence = your case

anyway there is a free virus scanning site that I have found that is really really good at detecting any malware on a system
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

If that finds any trojans / virus's after its done you should reboot and run it again... and keep running it until you have no more found.. because sometimes these things run off each other / disable each other, so to be sure that you do not have anythign on your system you should continually do reboot / scan every time that something is found

also you might want to get some type of registry cleaner. there is a free one called EURSING FREE REGISTRY CLEANER that I have found does a good job at cleaning up your registry from broken / adware / un-needed programs
    http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_...ry_cleaner.htm

as for the future, I would suggest that you do not pay for anti-virus software, there are plenty of programs on the web that offer some great services, like the housecall... but that one does a post-infection scan. to get realtime capabilities, you might try somethign called AVG or AVAST... both of those I believe have free versions that are good.

I am not going to completely dup N.I.S.S. it is a Suite so it contains Norton Anti Virus, Norton Internet Securtiy (with ad blocking), and Norton Anti-Spam (I need Anti Spam the most because I signed up for one bogus thing and 3000 spammers have my email address. I get at least 30 spam messages a day and Norton Anti Spam gets 25/30 of them)

There are plenty of anti-spam, anti-spy/adware, ad blockers, etc out there. I have found in the past that the Norton Internet Suite is way over-rated and also very processor intensive. I have also found that there are many other programs that do the exact same thing as (but even better than) Norton that are also free.

    Either way, just my opinions.

I get about the same statistics from Thunderbird's built-in adaptive spam filter (hint: never show your email address on DD unless you've got one heck of a spam filter in place).

Oops. No wonder I get Viagra spam. (And also the fake US Tax Return... even though I don't live in the US) Luckily, G-Mail filters it.

I may have to revise my latest post a little:
I may have sigend up for more than one bogus thing, but I think the real problem is that I had A phpBB2 fourm for a while. An phpBB2 dispalys your email address in your profile. In a week I had about 120 users 119 were bots posting **** and car ads on the site, even with CATCHPA or whater its called.

    I am not that stupid(tech_support).

Right now, I think I shoud find out what went worng with the program, after all I payed good $$$$$MONEY$$$$$$ and I am ready to sue Symsmatic(well by ready I mean, I still havent got a lawyer yet but....... OK YOU GOT ME I, am not going to sue at somthing that I may spend thousands on a lawyer and not get anyware while Symatic(whatever) has 1000 lawyers for virus stuff.)
