    What you need to start:

    1. Flash authoring tool (preferably Macromedia Flash)
    2. Knowledge of ActionScript (I suggest starting with AS 2.0 and moving to 3.0)

The best flash tutorial site: www.gotoAndLearn.com

Medyman, thanks for reply, and in the site you mentioned above it tells about FLV files, and in some other sites and forums i saw FLA files. Do you know if they are the same things?

    .flv are flash videos

in the site I recommended, they are video tutorials. you can download the software that is listed on that site to view them.

websites like youtube etc... use .flv videos.

.fla are raw flash files. these are the files that you can open up inside of a macromedia flash and edit.

you might also see .swf. these are the flash output files (i.e. what you would add to a webpage)

Another good site is kirupa.com they have a bunch of very useful beginner tutorials with just learning about basic animation and such . after you get tired of those they go the real good stuff and have a lot of tutorials that are advance and deal with the features you see most sites have now-a-days, but you def want to go to gotoandlearn lee does amazing video tutorials and the forum for the most part is a great resource as well. you normally wont find video tutorials on kirupa but they are excellent step by step instruction.

I started learning flash by downloading the program *trial* and I learned by using this great site called learnflash.com its really good. I also just tried out using another site which I can't get the name of right now, its in the flash section but it has todo with making a videoplayer but they got tons of stuff on pre-loaders *WHICH YOU WILL NEED!* and stuff which is relativly easy todo. I basicly learned from video tutorials or by giving me the complete and correct code and then i would mess around with it... seeing what would happen... "OOO I WONDER WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I MAKE SYMBOL B AND A COLIDE INTO A PRE-LOADER *that never happened... it was to uh, well, uh... hmmm... risky...*

but anyways man have fun, don't buy the product you can download it from there site
*WHICH IS VERY SLOW (Because its big...) but just look for downloads.
    or
    even
    go here
    *sorry bout that*
    http://www.macromedia.com/
click downloads, trial and you have to make an acount *its free and i haven't gotten any mail from them...* just have fun mess with stuff, and you might also want to download an image editing program *like Paint.Net* which is free and the best free image editting program i've ever seen!

Hope that helps a lot or just helps...

//Edit: gotoandlearn is the site i was talking about with the preloader... very interesting easy tutorials... which work!

    A little tip on learnflash.com...

It's fine for some really simple stuff but their techniques aren't the optimal way of doing things. Don't use their ways if you can avoid it.
