Javascript to check certain checkboxes

Need some help to construct a javascript that functions like this:

1. When checkbox A is checked a function is called that checks all checks boxes that begin with a certain string ("checkbox" 1, 2, 3 etc for instance) and when unchecked all checkboxes are unchecked.

Any solutions?
