Default banner design, which programs, which file types?

    Hello,
I made a banner with 3 frames showing one after another, only as soon as I put it on the web (with an <img> link in HTML), I only get the first frame to show up. Do I need to use another filetype then PNG?
are there any online banner creaters that allow more frames and own graphics?
Which program edits the graphics for a banner best?
    Thanks for the answers
    Cheers,
    Ruth

Yes. PNG doesn't have support for animated images. Extensions to the format (MPNG and APNG) do, but they aren't widely supported. You'd have to use GIF (which means you're stuck if you want alpha transparency).

I figured it was going to be something like this..
Can I create an animated GIF with Photoshop or Macromedia somehow? if I save an image now in Macromedia I only can chose for png. If not, is there any online resource or an open source/ freeware program I can use?
    Cheers,
    Ruth

I should think so. In fact, last time I used Photoshop it came with an extra, Animation Shop, dedicated to doing exactly that. If that fails, the GIMP is capable of doing animated images. The GIMP Animation Package (GAP) adds some extra tools dedicated to working with animated images.

Animation Shop is the sister program of Paint Shop Pro.
    Imageready ships with Photoshop.

Photoshop usually comes with ImageReady which does animated gifs just fine.

I know the banners themselves aren't that great, but they work
    Thanks and big thanks!

You may want to slow it down a bit -- for me, at least, it's too fast to read in one pass with that font.

Agreed. It took me about 5 times to be sure of what the URL is.
