Flash Compatibility Issues

I plan on using Flash to create my portfolio and would then like to turn around and create a full website with Flash. I want the website to be as compatible with all the browsers as possible. Is there are any compatibility issues I should be aware of before doing this? Would you suggest I do or do not use Flash to create the entire website?

I would appreciate any opinions and help on this matter.

As long as the user's browser has flash installed, it should be compatible.

I personally recommend that if you do not need to use flash, then why use it. In other words, if you can make the same effect in plain HTML, then use that route instead of the more resource heavy Flash site. Something else you need to keep in mind is internet connections. If you make a Flash site that takes a little while to load using Broadband, then it will take a good bit longer for it to load using dial-up.

It depends on your audience. I find that for creative sites (i.e. portfolio and/or showcase sites) that full flash works well.

If you're worried about people with slower connections, do what I usually do. Make a HTML site as well as a full flash (it it's worth that much to you).

A caveat to that: if you know what you're doing, flash pages can load in just the same time as HTML. It is more resource heavy though but the effects are so much nicer.
