Default What Forum Features Do You Like?

I am coding a forum and I was woundering what kind of features you like, dislike, wish you had, etc. For example, I am putting in an option that --if selected-- will alert users when their new thread gets it's first response, 'cause I think it will be a nice touch. Anyway, what do you all think?

    Thanks!

Anyone else have a suggestion? Anything you would really love to have in a forum?

Ajax content. Too many times, there's all this refreshing and refreshing...

    Ajax is the savior here.

What do you mean? (I do not know anything about Ajax other than the name)

Easy to navigate and fast to skim through everything.

Trial and error, til it's smooth. Minimal space between links that you'd click one after another, easy to find navigation, etc.

Ajax communicates with the server without having to refresh the page. This way, people can submit a form and have a response without the page refreshing, among other things. The "quick reply" in this forum is an example.
