If you are using IE 7 and only testing locally, that's to be expected. In IE 7 testing live, you will still see that variable/object as empty, but the script will probably work. I only say probably because I cannot be sure about the pop up. Normally the script will not work in IE 7 locally and will in IE 7 live. IE 7 doesn't use the ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"). It follows the path in the script used by other browsers, but will not allow it locally due to security measures programmed into IE 7.
