That page is limited, though a good overview.
Some facts on the page are very limited, such as:
iMovie gives me the option to export to .avi DivX but it exports at 720x480, and I can't find any way to change the export size. I'm also not sure whether the ability to export to DivX came with iMovie or whether it appeared after I installed some software to let me view DivX movies.
iMovie JUST allows that resolution, which is the answer. So...it's a bit misleading.
I didn't read the whole page, so I can't comment overall.

It's up to you to pick the best format. I can't really think of a reason it would only work in Firefox; might be your system's configuration. The question is plugin/player, not browser.

Link to your page or give some actual information on what you are doing if you want specific help. Just telling us it only works in FF doesn't do much for us.

I personally like using .mov (quicktime), as it is compatible with all systems (assuming quicktime player), the player is friendly, and quality to size ratio is decent. There are other options though, and it is basically up to you in terms of personal preference, and it's worth considering your audience. If they are all on a mac, for example, I wouldn't think it a good idea to use a windows media format. Etc.
