Default HVmenu-Relative position problem in xoops

I am developing a Intranet using xoops. I am using a javascript casading menu in the main menu block instead of the xoops menu.
I decided to use HVmenu because of it's relative positioning and the ability to match the look of the xoops default theme.

I finished the intranet, but have discovered a problem with the menu. The hvmenu works great at 1024x768, but when viewed at 800x600 it loses it's relative positioning on some pages when viewed in IE. I have discovered that when an article gets to long or has to much information, the second and third menu levels appear in the upper left corner of the screen instead of relative to the first level. It may look fine at first, but if I type one extra character into the article past a certain point then publish, it breaks the menu. This does not happen when viewed in FireFox. Can someone give me some guidance?

Has anyone even seen this problem before?
