Hello all,
I brought this topi c up to see which browser people mostly use...
I use IE for windows![]()
IE 5, IE 6, IE7, FF 0.9, FF 1.0.5, FF 2.0, FF 3.0 BETA, Epiphany, lynx, AvantGo, Konqueror, Flock, K-Meleon, DeepNet Explorer, Links, SeaMonkey, and FireBird.
Of course some not every day, or every month for that matter, and some more than all the others (FF2 all day every day for example)
There are a few others but I don't have my testing laptop with me to boot up and look, and I forget their names![]()

WOW,
Now that's alot...
ow comes you need/have so many???
Just to say I have them
Seriously though, as a web designer you want your site viewable by the most people possible right? Noting that a lot of people are still using dial-up, (I know of some still using external 2400 baud modems!), some have older machines using 800X 600 res at 24 colors etc. Also some browsers don't even have some capabilities. (i.e. java, plug in support, etc) and yet others are still text only browsers.
I want(ed) my sites to look as good as possible in all those scenarios, and what better way than looking for my self? A lot easier than trying to have people I don't know tell me or send screen shots through a forum. And it's faster too![]()

I saw this topic and immediately thought of the Mad Magazine feature:
Spy vs Spy
I hadn't thought of that in ages so, it gave me a chuckle. I use Opera 9.01 most of all and really like it but I also have, in the order of how frequently I use them - FF 1.5.0.9, IE 7, IE 6. It then is a toss up between NN 4 NS 7.2 IE 5.5, 5, 4. I hope I haven't left any out, those browsers get so touchy sometimes, when they think that they are being ignored.

Well it seems that you people have many browsers at hand but lets now change it to what is your FAVOURITE BROWSER out of all of them...
IE for window at my end![]()
Firefox.
but i have K-melon, netscape, opera and IE7 also.
but FF and k-melon use the Gecko rendering engine, no real point in having them both. Netscape i can switch between FF and IE engines.
it is odd though, i was playing around with CSS and i noticed that IE is the only one that doesnt support the display:table-* attributes.
Rather odd to me, scince IE is all about the table based... NVM... with IE, the table attributes are redundant.
LINK anyways...
EDIT: need to have different CSS for each browser, so im using php to create a browser specific menu look...
My favourite is currently Konqueror.
I have installed: IE (5, 5.5, 6, 7 [don't you love ies4linux? They all respond to conditional comments correctly too]), Konqueror 3.5.6, Firefox 1.5, Firefox 2.0, Firefox 3 beta, dillo, Amaya, Opera 9, lynx, links, eLinks. This has been the bane of web developers' existence since browsers started supporting display: table-celli noticed that IE is the only one that doesnt support the display:table-* attributes.
For all the idealism in the world, there are some layouts that simply must have a table. display: table-cell, were it supported by IE, would allow all the benefits of table-based designs with none of the bulk markup, element abuse, and other rubbish that generally accompanies such things.
It is, of course, supported by all other popular browsers.

Well, if we are now talking about my favorite browser, that's hard to say. To look at me, you would have to say Opera 9.01 as, that is what I am using right now and what I usually use to browse. I also rely heavily upon it for development, diagnosis and design. However, I really do like some things about other browsers and have yet to find any that I would call ideal. There is something clunky about FF but, aside from that, it is extremely good and the extensions are hard to beat. Opera has widgets but, no one has taken the time yet that I am aware of to make the really useful ones like are available for FF as extensions. IE is kinda cool in an odd way. I guess if I had to pick one that irks me it would be NS 8 and up. These browsers are obnoxious the way they come bundled with crap and try to prevent you from keeping previous versions around. Plus the rendering tries to be all things to all people but seems to fail in a few areas, ending up in my opinion being little better than nothing. I really like the NS 7 series default skin, it's just so soothing to look at and they were very good browsers at the time and are still decent. Some of these legacy browsers have quaint features too. I have run Konq under cygwin and although the install I had was fraught with troubles, I could still appreciate how nice a browser it must be in its native 'nix environment.
To sum up, I have come to just like browsers - the way some people just like cars. I think that they are almost all pretty cool in their own ways. And, even the worst of them is better than what I can write at that level.
