XML Playlist in MP3 Flash Player

I spent a few weeks making this really cool mp3 player, and now I just found out that it is having serious compatability issues with Windows XP and it's not reading the xml playist on the Firefox browser while in Windows XP! The Flash Works, but it won't buffer the audio files attached to it through the xml file!

I've also noticed it doesn't work all the time on MAC Computers either! and some people told me it's not buffering on IE all the time either! However, it works great on all browsers in Windows 2000 !!!!!

I emailed the original designer of the script, but it may be a week before I hear back from him.

Can anyone help? I need to figure out how to make the XML Playlists to work on all browsers and all computers!

The problem isn't with windows xp or with FF or with IE. The problem is with myspace.

Nothing you can do about that except dump myspace (cause it is crap anyway) and put your things up on a real website that you created.

go to "radio" then click one of the links to the left to open the player on my web site! It's the same script, but on my web site and it doesn't work on Windows XP in Firefox!!!! Also doesn't work all the time on MAC Computers......

Firefox is great in Windows 2000, what happened with Windows XP ?????

I have two computers infront of me right now (both hooked to the internet), one with windows 2000 and the other with Windows XP, and the information I have is FACT!!!! Windows 2000 works fine with my player on all browsers (my web site and my script on myspace), and for some odd reason Windows XP won't let my player load on Firefox!

FACT!!! ROTF! Ease up buddy. Just because the answer you get isn't the answer you want, doesn't mean you are right and everyone else (or just me in this case) is wrong...

What else would you like? Your problem sounds local to your machine, make sure you don't have some silly Windows security setting enabled.

If you click on the images you posted, you'll see the Flash Works but the stripped red and black bar doesn't buffer or load the songs! So in XP it doesn't work at all........

I've been looking over and over the script for the player and I've come to the conclusion it's something to do with the XML file that controls the player. Only nothing's wrong with it, and it works great on all browsers in Windows 2000 on my Web Site and on MySpace! So there must be something blocking it on Windows XP or in the browsers themselves!

My first thought was it must be a security issue, but I really hate Windows XP, I never wanted it and I never asked for it. I'd rather just get Windows 2000 again and tell everyone to through away their Windows XP.

I read somewhere on the net that most flash applications are now starting to use XML because it's the script of the future. How can this be possible with software like Windows XP that prevents it? lol I think I disabled all of my security settings, nothing seems to work.

Only I'm having a really hard time finding a way to fix it. It seems like it's just linking me to pages and pages of articles on why it doesn't work and I can't find a simple solution to the problem.

Hold on a second, I just tested the above link in both Windows 2000 (that does work) and in Windows XP (that doesn't work) and the page say the same thing so maybe that page isn't good to test anything at all...

Net Scape works the best with my player though and IE seems to work fairly well too! I think that it may have something to do with how the browsers are set up to stream media, only why would it work on all browsers in Windows 2000 and not on Firefox in Windows XP ???

If anyone can figure this one out, let me know!

I'm thinking it might still have something to do with the XML playlist file! The XML still works on all browsers, it just won't buffer the audio on all of the browsers...

We should protest Windows XP and have public demonstartions where we burn all Windows XP Software in large public bon fires!!!

I'm pissed. Windows XP is a thousand times worse than MySpace!!!

I'm having a problem with my own player as well. Not the same issue as you and I really don't know much about it so take this with a grain of salt.

However during trying to find out my own problem, I stumbled upon a page that mentions issues if you had a previous version of flash installed. They recommend uninstalling the old version before reinstalling the new one, rather than overwriting it.

I think it was mentioned as being Firefox related. May have nothing to do with your issue, but mentioning it anyway.

I located the problem and fixed it........

It turned out that it had nothing to do With Windows or the type of Browser after all.

It was my playlist in the XML file

All songs must be on the same line, can't use the return key on the keyboard to break the line. All songs must be on one line together, and one line only!

What caused me to over look this, is Windows 2000 which lets you break the line with the return key and still have it work on all browsers. Only Windows XP and MAC computers won't allow it to function and you won't know about it because you'll be on Windows 2000 which made it seem alright when it actually wasn't!

However, the fact alone that the playlist has to all be on one line is really an error in itself because it shouldn't be a requirement for it to be on one line. It shouldn't be that big of a deal, but Windows XP and Firefox seem to be picky when it comes to script.

I've never had any problems with Flash Player, I've always downloaded the new versions without ever having to remove older versions. Though when working with XML files related to flash objects, one wrong srcipt change means deleting all assocciated files and reloading them! XML is very tricky, one wrong script change and all your work goes bye bye.

If you want to try and build a player like mine, always work with copys of your files so if you make wrong changes, you have good files to fall back on.

Glad you got it fixed...

BTW, though the images don't show it, and I wasn't going to upload a recording, but I heard the songs.

Now that I think about it though, I wonder if that was because I have my machine set up to do certain things like ignore parse errors and what not when I debug... hmmm.. interesting.
