How to get cursor's position in textarea

Hi guys,
I'm making a forum and I want to add quick text formatting(you know making bold, italic e.t.c.)! I want to have some buttons that each one does something else! Now, I want when a button is pressed to get the cursor's position in the textarea, so I can add whatever I want! How can I do that?
