How to do a progress bar for page loading

I have been searching for a progress bar that works for page loading. I have only found time-based and image loading ones. Can anyone assist?

I am having a hard time figuring out how you could run the progress bar and detect when the page has finished loading then stop the progress bar.

Any advice would be appreciated.
