You can download the .iso disks for free. LOL install on already owned hardware, or spend the $60(US) for a second harddrive and dual boot.
But I do understand about $$ though, and as long as that is your only stopping point you will get Linux soon enough.

I'm not sure about the legal implications of some of this... I have a feeling those images may be copyrighted. I'm not a lawyer, though: you should probably ask Microsoft.

Why not change the colors on it, and get rid of the Windows logo in the top corner, then you should be good with Microsoft.
