Default IE 7 Crash - Help needed

    Hi all,

I am having some crashes in my IE 7 especially when i try to close multiple windows by clicking the close button (x) on the main IE window.

In the Event viewer I am getting the following error message

    Code:
Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.5730.11, faulting module pdm.dll, version 6.0.0.8169, fault address 0x0001259d.
    Anybody faced this problem here?

    regards

Mine won't let me unless I click yes to closing multiple tabs each time I try it, have you disabled that feature?

Yes I've disabled that item so whenever i click the main close button everything will be closed.

I have Visual Studio 6.0 in my system and I wonder whether this problem is associated to the installation of visual studio service pack 3.

    Any thoughts...

    regards

I'd first try re-enabling the warning:

Tools > Internet Options > General (tab) > Settings (button in tabs section)

check 'Warn me when closing multiple tabs'.

Of course, it could be as you say, a dll change as a part of an upgrade to another program. If this is the case, there would likely be an article (and probably a fix) on it in the MS Knowledge base.

If it were my system and neither of the two above approaches worked for me, I would want to check thoroughly for malware, spyware and viruses.

I've installed the visual studio 6 service pack 3 and haven't got the crash since.

In the first part itself the crashing problem occurred infrequently.

I've tested the machine for Malware and Spyware already.

Now i am waiting for another crash, it hasn't came yet

I'm a little confused, where you said:

I have Visual Studio 6.0 in my system and I wonder whether this problem is associated to the installation of visual studio service pack 3.
It sounds like you are wondering if the SP is the cause. But (later) here:

I've installed the visual studio 6 service pack 3 and haven't got the crash since.
It sounds like you think the SP might have solved it. It may have nothing to do with the SP though, as you say it was intermittent to begin with.

Another thing I would look for. Does this happen with (a) certain page(s) or types of content (say - Java, QT or Flash) in one or more of the closed tabs?

Unfortunately the installation of service packs hasn't solved the problem. I got one crash after the installation.

No the crash occurs infrequently and with no specific web pages. It occurs whenever i try to close the IE window(s) all at once.

It shows error in pdm.dll file in the event manager that i had posted in my first post.

So, is it truly intermittent or does it really happen:

whenever i try to close the IE window(s) all at once
    ?

Yes it happens sometimes not all the times. That makes this thing more difficult as I am not sure when this is going to happen.

I really appreciate your help on this issue John.

I get the impression (from Googling this) that this was an issue during the beta trials. Are you sure you have the full official release version? Other than that, if you do have the full release, I'd try re-enabling the 'are you sure' dialogue to see if that takes care of the problem.
