    Default IE7 New window size

With IE7 I am finding that new windows and sized very small and i can't work out how to reset the default size. With IE6 it seemed to take whatever size I have resized the last new window to as the new default new window size.
    Can anyone advise?

    Hope that makes sense.

Try this - With only one instance of the IE 7 browser open, 'restore down' the window by clicking on the symbol of the two rectangles in the upper right hand corner next to the closing X symbol. This should cause your browser to assume the same small size as you have been experiencing as your 'new window' size. Adjust the size of this window to your liking and then maximise it. The 'new window' size should now be new size you have established for the primary window's 'restored down' size.

thanks for your reply. I tried what you suggested. After resizing I was able to miximise and then restore down to the newly set size, but then when I opened a new window it was back to the original (tiny) size.

    Any other ideas?

Works here. Are you sure that you tried this first with only the primary instance of IE 7, or were you already working from a new window? How are you opening a new window? I used ctrl-N. I also tried clicking on a link in the forum here that I knew would open in a new window, that worked as well. If your link that you are clicking on to open a new window uses the javascript window.open() method with specifications for the size of the new window, the specified size will override anything that you do but can later be reset for other types of new windows using the method I've already outlined.

Size the window to where you want it at.

Press [Ctrl] and [Shift] at the same time while closing that window.

Reopen a window and it should be the size you want.

That was the problem. I was opening the new window from MSN msgnr. Problem now sorted.

    Thanks.

Default ie 7 resizing windows without being asked to

which solution worked? i want all windows maximized always (except maybe for pop-ups that specify a specific size, though the size these specify is usually too small anyway). it seems all the solution i have tried are good for maybe a session, but once you shut down and start over, it's a whole new annoying ball game once again.

firefox definitely better in this area, but worse in many others, so i'm back to try ie again...

    thanks!

This is the best that it gets, follow the instructions carefully, with only 1 instance of the browser open:

Thanks very much. The only other thing I also did is on my Vista toolbar and desktop is right clicked each IE icon > Properties > Run > Maximized (instead of Normal). That'll help on startup I guess.
