Fade out, load new page, fade in help

ok, I am using a mixture of script.aculo.us effects and Dynamic Ajax Content found on this site. I want it to fade out, load the content, then fade back in.

Im almost a complete n00b at this but I have common sense so heres what I got..
<a href="javascript:new Effect.Fade(footer);ajaxpage('web.html', 'footer');new Effect.Appear(footer);">

but its just not working right, any suggestions?
