Dial up and downloads.. need advice

I have a site member that is using dial up connection. Not a problem there as I have MANY that are on dial up.

The problem though, is that when they try to download a PSD file (2MB) it is getting to about 17% and then stopping.

I have triple checked everything on my end and everything is fine, the file is not corrupt, or broken and downloads fine on my dial up connection.

I have had the user clear cache, expand RAM and virtual memory, as well as pagination sizes, even went as far as downloading a download manager and trying that.

This happens if the member goes to the file through the URL OR right clicks on a self made link to the file.

Nothing is working. If I email the PSD to the member they can download it form the email just fine.

Anyone have any ideas on the source of the problem and/or a fix?

I'd blame the user's browser. Check that the user can download it from your HTTP server via some other method (telnet perhaps?). If not, it's the ISP's problem; get the user to 'phone them. If s/he can download the file via another method, advise that s/he updates his/her browser(s): IE7, Fx2, Opera 9.02, whatever. If s/he updates but still can't download it, get him/her to try a different browser altogether.

Sorry, that slipped my mind. s/he has tried in FF and IE (not sure which versions of each) but it didn't make a spit of difference.

If it is the ISPs problem, what would I tell him/her to ask them when s/he called?

I've no idea. There are a large variety of possible causes. If the tech support is any good (ha, ha), it should be possible for the user to simply describe his/her problem and for the support to use his/her knowledge of the ISP's systems to work out a few possibilities.

Another thing you might want to try is giving him/her FTP access to the file to see if s/he can download it from your server that way.

Also, it could be that the user is running out of disk space. Try clearing the cache, cleaning up etc.

I did, thanks for that. s/he has called tech support, and I have yet to hear back. They are moving along on the game though, so seems to be working, at least better.
