Default Help on Chat room and a forum

    Hi
I have got my own website which i'm trying to develop, Now i'm on the process of creating a forum like this i.e.dynamic drive forum and a chat room but the thing is i don't have a crue where to start.

On that forum and chat room i want them to be able to handle a large number of visitors who will use them. I don't want a third part chat room where they provide just some code but i want my own chat room and forum.

If there is software or ways on creating this two things i.e. A forum and a Chat room, please i would be very appreciated to get more information about that. Thank you.

The first step is to ensure that you have server-side coding support on your server. If you do, please specify which language(s) your server supports. If you're unsure, ask your host. If you don't have server-side scripting support, you have three options: use a remotely-hosted script, get your host to install it, or get another server.

If you are actually considering coding both a chatroom and a forum, that's kinda crazy.

Forums like this and others have teams of many people who are very skilled in their particular areas of coding and have the time (due to being paid, in many situations) to devote to such huge projects.

I'd say get free scripts/forums/etc. which are available.

As Twey says, what server side languages does your host support? If you have PHP and MySQL (Database) then you will be able to use a lot of widely available forums, and somoe chatrooms too, though a good one is harder to find than a forum.

Not at all. Forums like this have teams of many people. A very basic forum, however, isn't too hard to code.

odd, no link... Id suggest invisionfree and creating an IRC chat room. Both are simple enough to use, and you will be able to get code for an irc applet & server easily....

I agree about the IRC chatroom -- see CGI::IRC. As for the forum, I've had unpleasant experiences with Invision, and would suggest SimpleMachines forum.

phpBB is popular, and works well, from the limited experience I have had with it. (As a user, not admin.)

    Twey,
Now i'm on the process of creating a forum like this i.e.dynamic drive forum
That's what I was responding to.

I think some of you are better than me on this sector, For that reason is it possible for any of you to create that chat room and forum for me then we will talk how it will cost as a charge or tell me how much will you charge me then give me your contact details and we will take from there.

Hope i will get your help. Thank you.

    Ah -- heh.

Yes, I used phpBB for a while, but now I recommend SMF over it, due to more features, more customisability, neater code, and valid output (well, it's XHTML, but better than nothing -- phpBB outputs an unpleasant sort of HTML/XHTML hybrid that isn't really valid as either).

Creating an entire message board or chat room is too much for one person. A simple one, sure, but anything that really works well, just is a really big job.
If you've got the time, great. If not, I suggest just using a free script that's out there.
I've got a lot of things going on... no time to code a while forum
