How to Register Authorized Users?

I want to restrict access to pages unless a user is registered.
I will have the registered users in a mySql database.
My issue is not the database but the access mechanism for pages.
Basically I want to do the same thing I just did to register for the dynamicdrive.com site.
Is there a tutorial somewhere that explains this?

Hi Tech_support,

I don't think that is the correct place for what CharlieG asked as it is mainly related to coding which usually comes as a part of any server-side technology. He was not confused with database but with code.
