handling error messages in a url

Hi guys,

I am working on some form pages and need to handle the errors generated.
basically if a user clicks submit and for example does not enter the date correctly the error message will come back at the end
of the url in the address bar.
How do I take the error portion of the URL and display it gracefully on the page?
There is the possibility of hundreds of error messages so I need to grab whats in the url and display that.

Please be gentle complete novice when it comes to the whole javascript end of things

I understand that but our asp is not very forthcoming when it comes to building custom pages per our request so I have everything working except for the error handling.
