    Default Outlook Email Signature

    Hi All,

    Firstly let me say i am a complete novice when it comes to programming and will doth my cap to anyone who could possibly help me with this matter.

    Basically, i am trying to get a piece of code i stumbled across to work as my email signature in outlook. After searching on the forum, i read a previous post about the dangers of sending HTML emails, but as i work in a bank, i'll leave it up to the IT guys to worry about that. Anyway, the code looks like:
    Code:
    <head>
    <script LANGUAGE="JavaScript" FPTYPE="mydynamicanimation">
    <!--
      dynamicanimAttr = "mydynamicanimation"
      animateElements = new Array()
      currentElement = 0
      speed = 0
      stepsZoom = 8
      stepsWord = 8
      stepsFly = 12
      stepsSpiral = 16
      steps = stepsZoom
      step = 0
      outString = ""
      function mydynAnimation()
      {
        var ms = navigator.appVersion.indexOf("MSIE")
        ie4 = (ms>0) && (parseInt(navigator.appVersion.substring(ms+5, ms+6)) >= 4)
        if(!ie4)
        {
          if((navigator.appName == "Netscape") &&
             (parseInt(navigator.appVersion.substring(0, 1)) >= 4))
          {
            for (index=document.layers.length-1; index >= 0; index--)
            {
                layer=document.layers[index]
                if (layer.left==10000)
                    layer.left=0

          }

    That's not HTML. It is javascript, and browser specific (IE) javascript at that. As such, it will be blocked by just about any email client and handled as pure text by most of the rest.

    Even if using pure HTML (as a signature or an entire email) has problems if your email client doesn't also send a text only version. This creates no problems on the sending side, as long as the sending email client can handle it, as many can. But, on the receiving end where you have no control over the email client in use. Many cannot make any sense of HTML email.
