Select box appears in front of HV menu.

I know someone has posted this question before but I couldn't not get it to work with the suggestion made.
Has Anyone progressed in resolving this issue?
I have tried setting style="z-index:-1" for the select drop down menu but the HV drop down menu still appears behind the select drop down.
