Best JavaScript Editor / IDE available

Hello Experts,

I would like to know some information about the best IDE / Editor using which a developer can develop complex JavaScript code.

Hope you'll help me to identify the best JavaScript editor.

Coding by hand, certainly with a programming language, even more than just html, will be the best in the end.

If anything, I'd suggest finding something that color-codes the source as you type it; that's nice to keep track of what is going on.

Dreamweaver does it, as well as other programs.... not sure which ones.

I prefer to use nedit but there are many out there one of which I know is: http://www.c-point.com/javascript_editor.php

But just try checking around with google you may find a free and better one.

nedit is quite nice, but I prefer vim. If you run a UNIX-based OS and KDE, Kate with the right plugins is very good.

I really like the ms expressions one but if you don't want to use ctp then you should try conTEXT.

I've tried a ton of 'em. the best-- well, obviously my preference-- is TSW Webcoder 2005. I was a big HomeSite advocate, but since there's no more development there, i decided to try some newer stuff-- plus, i wasn't as into ColdFusion as i was PHP. When i found Webcoder, i really felt at home. Of course, it's a good bit different than HomeSite, but something about the intuitive nature of things -- seemed like the developer was coming from a "HomeSite perspective"... if that makes any sense. It's got an excellent CSS support-- you could say TopStyle is basically Built-into it. a Color Picker w/ eyedroper-- look at your preview, grab a border color, stick it on whatever-- you get the idea. Plus, complete support of MySQL and PHP. Your variables are monitored, so you get this sort of auto-complete thing going. Keep an eye on TSWare-- there's something amazing coming from them soon. Hard to call it an upgrade on WebCoder, but essentially, that's what it is.

hehe-- i've had it in my sig for a while. you get to try it 25 times (not days). play your cards right-- you can get a lot of FREE use out of it! but, it's definitely worth the twenty five bucks or whatever it costs.

If you're looking for FREE and you're into Web Standards, try the CSE HTML Validator. it's great for that! (NuSphere's IDE endorses it)

a while back, i tried a whole bunch of others. Araneae was one of them. i honestly don't remember for sure, but i believe it was one of the better of the bunch. there's a free one called something about "Free HTML editor" or "Free website editor" -- something like that-- i can't recall. it's got 2005 (or 2006) as part of the name. if you can figure out what' i'm describing-- that one is pretty nice too.

EDIT: oh! Notepad++ is awesome too for free. if you like to handcode-- it has syntax highlighting for a TON of languages, including XML. simultaneous, dual page editing w/ locking syncronous page scrolling-- see the differences in two similar files really easy. sourcefoge, i think.
